Edwin Josey was in Pima, Arizona in 1918. He moved to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi sometime between 1918 and 1920 with his family. On July 3, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was released on January 14, 1946 from service. Three years later, on January 16, 1949, he joined the United States Air Force, where he worked until January 31, 1962 when he was released from service. He married Georgia Ray O’Hara and had one son, James R. Josey. On November 2, 2008, he died in Dallas, Texas at the age of 90.

She was born in Cedar Bluff to Ensley Russell Lyon (1888-1963) and Emmit Lyon (1885-1914). She worked as a beautician for many years, and even owned her own shop. She married Henry Mack Applewhite (August 24, 1913 – March 11, 1996) on May 11, 1946. Vashti Josey Applewhite died on January 18, 2004 in West Point, Mississippi. She is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in West Point, Clay County, Mississippi. She had two children, her daughter, Ensley A. Howell, and her son Henry J. Applewhite.
